They say writing is therapeutic [IT IS :)] but nobody ever told me that my mind would turn into a cluttered Google Drive folder with no ‘delete’ option.
There’s something oddly satisfying and fascinating about penning down your thoughts in a random diary and locking it away from everyone – yk, kinda like, leaving secret messages for your future self to cringe at.
I’ve always believed, not every thought needs to make sense (mine never do!)……some are just meant to be scribbled and left alone – like a little emotional laundry that we forget to fold. And somewhere among those half-empty half-filled pages, messy handwritings and wild thoughts, I found this weird little therapy session called “scribbling“.
HOW SCRIBBLING BECAME MY LITTLE RITUAL
It started very randomly, more like a timepass. I used to jot down random one-liners or movie dialogues, lyrics of songs to memorise. “Yeh Dil maange more”, “Mai apni favourite hoon”, or whatever filmy dramatic line that used to fit my mood of the day.
I’ve always been a little weird. I never liked making to-do lists, preparing watchlists, but used to loooooove making lists of things I have already done or completed, it just makes me feel good looking at the little things I’ve done, and, life is all about it, appreciating the little things. I have endless lists of all the series I’ve binged, all the books that I’ve read, descriptions of all the crazy things that I’ve done. *<*
Slowly, these scribbles turned into full-blown brain dumps – the kind of stuff I wouldn’t even tell my best friend but would happily tell an old notebook with a broken spiral.
WHY SCRIBBLING WORKS LIKE THERAPY (EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT A “WRITER”)
Brain dump therapy is all about releasing thoughts without overthinking, but what happens when you’re writing for an audience that doesn’t exist yet? The struggle of putting words out there, unsure if anyone will read them, is real. If you’ve ever felt this way, you might find [The Art of Writing When No One’s Reading] relatable.
You know, what’s the best part? Scribbling isn’t about writing something perfect – it’s about pouring your hearts out, emptying your mind without judgement.
Here’s why it’s low-key magic :
- It clears mental clutter without asking for rent.
- It helps untangle those overthinking webs that only your brain seems to enjoy.
- It doesn’t demand Instagram-worthy handwriting – just honesty (and obviously, some cursing!)
- No pressure to sound poetic or profound (because no one’s gonna see it unless your diary becomes a best-selling memoir someday, duh!)
TINY WRITING RITUALS YOU CAN START TODAY
If you’re not into full-blown journaling, here’s your chear code :
- Three Random Thoughts Before Bed (Even if one of them is just “I’m hungry”)
- One Tiny Win Of The Day (Brushed your hair? Queen Behaviour 👑)
- A Song Lyric That Fits My Mood Right Now
- The Dumbest Thing That Crossed My Mind Today
THE SECRET SAUCE
No one’s ever gonna read those scribbles (unless your diary gets leaked like a Bollywood scandal – touchwood 😌). But that’s the whole point – you’re writing to express.
Some scribbles will make you laugh. Some will make you cringe. Most will make no sense at all. But hey, neither does life.
Keep Scribbling Anyway!! ♡♡
